was 1820 before the machine that changed the course of
calculating came to view. While serving his term in the
french army, Charles Xavier Thomas de Colmar had the idea
of building a calculating machine. His prototype was introduced
in 1820 and 25 years later an extremely lucrative calculator
business was underway.
