Also, they were expensive. Though they could do the work of a half-a-dozen men (inaccurately), the half-dozen men (with their human failing) were cheaper than the machine.

Technology had to wait for economics to catch up and the machines became conversation pieces and pretty toys. Ten are known to exist today, one in the IBM collection.

The most important contribution made by Pascal is that by building his machine he proved it could be done.

Several attempts were made to develop machines after Pascal.
