In 1880, Odhner parted company with Nobel, set up his own company, and in 1886 began to manufacture the "Original Odhner" in Russia.

The machine sold well all over Europe. However, patent rights for Germany had been bought by another firm, Grimme Natalis, which improved the patents and placed a similar machine on the market.
