IBM 701 Vacuum Tubes

Later, in the IBM 701 computer of the early 1950's, this storage of binary data was accomplished with vacuum tubes. In the mid-1930's, Bell Laboratories invented the automatic relay switching system for direct dialing of telephone calls. It was this invention that was to have the first impact on changing the operational concept of data processing.
